This course is designed for students participating in a semester study abroad program. We will examine the idea of culture, how culture impacts our perspective on the world and daily interactions, and how to respect and connect to cultures different than our own. We will learn about the host culture, comparing it to the U.S. context, and reflect on the challenges and opportunities of living and studying in another country. Students will also have the opportunity to explore their own cultural competency by completing the Intercultural Development Inventory, using this tool to explore their personal development throughout the semester. The course will culminate by exploring how culture intersects with global citizenship.
