INTH 402: Global Health Imagery in Research, Communication, and Advocacy (100/2793)

This rigorous 3 credit course address fundamental and advanced topics of global health imagery and communication. The course will cover legal and regulatory issues around photographing or otherwise depicting patients and/or research subjects; the ethics of photographing individuals and populations in context of disease states and behaviors including obtaining active or passive consent; technical skills of digital photography; approaches to photo composition; and use of photos, videos, and sound in health education, research, and advocacy. Students will be instructed on a variety of equipment including their own cameras, cell phone cameras, entry-level dSLRs and mid-range dSLRs, and video recorders. All students will be required to submit their work in gallery, university display, contest, or professional application. The course will highlight the multidisciplinary expertise of public/global health researchers and practitioners at CWRU and the broader community. Offered as INTH 402 and MPHP 402.
